Tiny, yet tough; high-performance, yet cost-effective — all of which fittingly describe the new VSM Series Micro Sensors from Banner Engineering Corp. The VSM Series sensors provide an ideal solution for a wide variety of applications in a number of different industries, specifically those requiring smooth, hygienic designs such as food and beverage, and pharmaceuticals. Other applications include die sensing, part presence verification, and assembly machines with articulated or reciprocating motion.
"The VSM Series sensors are an important addition to our line of miniature photoelectric sensors, not only because of their size, but also because of their ability to function in heavy washdown environments that use a variety of liquids and chemicals," said Mike Dean, Product Planning Director at Banner Engineering. "Another advantage is that the VSM Series sensors provide an alternative to proximity sensors and optical fibers in high-flex environments, making them a versatile sensor for our customers"
VSM Series sensors are housed in a choice of a threaded or smooth, self-contained 4 mm barrel with 300 series stainless steel, or in flat-pack side-looking housing, making them easy to clean. The sapphire lens resists a wide variety of chemicals and cutting fluids. The sensors provide an advanced convergent optical design for a very repeatable sensing range. Models are available with a 10, 20, 50 or 90 mm sensing range and up to 250 mm as a through beam. A narrow, well-focused sensing beam allows the entire sensor to be recessed into the fixture (excluding the 50 mm range model).
