The German Connector and Housing specialist ESCHA has developed a completely new
product range which is designed to cope with the typical requirements of Bus and Train manufacturers. The connectivity components will be launched at the international trade show Innotrans in Berlin from 23-26 September 2014 and will be available immediately thereafter.
Reliable on-board network systems have evolved into a decisive factor within the vehicle development on modern busses and trains. Efficient and robust networks provide for safety and passenger comfort. Complex subsystems (IEC 61375-3-4) supply the main server with real-time information via a high-performance base network (Backbone according to IEC 61375-2-5) and are a necessary requirement for the transnational European train traffic.
The new ESCHA product program for Bus and Train applications is designed to fulfil the typical requirements of these modern onboard networks: The components can be quickly
and easily integrated into the vehicle; they provide for a safe and reliable data transmission up to 10 Gbit/s according to Cat6A and also meet the relevant fire protection standard DIN EN 45545 (Hazardous Level 3) as well as DIN EN 50155 for all electronic facilities being installed on train vehicles.
At market launch, overmolded 4-pole and 8-pole Ethernet M12x1 connection and junction cables, as well as field-wireable versions will be available. In addition, relevant reflow-capable flanges for device connectivity (e.g. switches) as well as a cable connectors for lossless cable extensions will be provided. The overmolded connectors are equipped with a high-grade Railcat-cable optimally resistant to the harsh environmental conditions and mechanical, chemical or thermal stresses on trains.
360°-Shielding indispensable
All connectors and flanges of the new product line have a continuous 360°-Shielding. This is based on ESCHA-developed and patented ESCHA 2SSK-Technology, providing for a permanent shielding even with vibration and high mechanical stresses. The shield connection is effected through a reliable crimping with the shield housing. The final two-component overmolding is the only solution currently available on the market meeting protection classes IP67, IP68 and IP69K requirements irrespective of the cable jacket used.
