Compact analogue sensor with a 45 mm measuring range supplies a linear output signal with high precision. Turck has added a compact version with an analogue output to its range of special sensors for pneumatic cylinders. The WIM45-UNTL model allows the position of the piston between the ends of the cylinder to be determined at any time so that penetration depths and stroke motion can be detected precisely. This kind of detection is useful for a large number of applications such as ultrasonic welding, hot air riveting, bolting, pressing, clamping, cutting or for quality control. The new Turck sensor now provides an efficient alternative to wear-intensive and mechanically cumbersome solutions with potentiometers or expensive linear positioning systems.
With a total length of only 72 mm and a housing width of 5 mm, the WIM45-UNTL is the most compact sensor with an analogue sensor on the market. Two fixing lips enable the device to be fitted in the groove with one hand. The sensor can then be adjusted and mounted vibration-free with two fixing screws which also reliably prevent the sensor from being lifted off. The sensor is fastened in the T groove using the well-established wing nut of the BIM-UNT sensors which is made from tool steel alloy.
The compact sensor consists of a series of Hall elements that produce signals which are processed in a microprocessor. The sensor is not susceptible to interference from external magnetic fields since interference fields can be masked out by comparing all 12 sensor signals. The output signal (0…10 V, 4…20 mA) is linearised and does not depend on the N/S polarity of the magnet in the cylinder. The characteristic curve can thus be changed from 0…10 V to 10…0 V by simple rotation. The inrange function detects whether the magnet is within the measuring range and at which end it has left the measuring range.
Almost the entire range of accessories of the BIM-UNT series is compatible with the WIM45-UNTL. This includes for example accessories for mounting on different cylinder types (profile cylinder, tie-rod cylinders, round cylinders or dovetail cylinders), for fine adjustment of the measuring range, for fixing a reproducible measuring range after mounting a sensor as well as cable fastening clips for secure cable laying.
